Facility
The Transgenic Animal Core Facility is supported by the Molecular Biology Program, the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Comparative Medicine Center at the University of Missouri – Columbia. The facility is located in E122/E120 Veterinary Medicine Building.

Laboratory
The laboratory facilities include dedicated laboratories for cell culture and micromanipulation equipped with a Nikon Inverted TE 2000U Microscope with stage warmer/cooler, Nikon CoolPix camera, and Sony video monitor, housed on a Kinetic anti-vibration table. Eppendorf micromanipulators are used and include (2) TransferMan NK2 injectors, Femtojet microinjector, Cell Tram Air and Cell Tram Oil units. Several Forma, water jacket, CO2 regulated incubators are available. The lab is equipped with both a laminar flow hood and a biosafety hood. Additional Olympus and Nikon scopes are available for embryo collection and assessment. Additional laboratory space is provided for DNA preparation, processing of samples for testing, and performance of PCR screening. Additional equipment includes centrifuge, refrigerated microfuge, waterbaths, pH meter, osmometer, balance, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, electroelution equipment, gel apparatus and cryostorage facilities. Additional shared laboratory and equipment is available in adjacent departmental laboratories.

Animal Housing
The Transgenic Animal Core has assigned animal housing space in the Veterinary Medicine Building. Donor and recipient animals are obtained from commercial vendors that provide extensive health screening and are free of known murine pathogens. Animals are housed in ventilated racks or micro-isolator cages, maintained on strict light controlled schedules, and are periodically screened for health status to ensure health status of the colony.
