Zeiss LSM 5 LIVE

The Zeiss LSM 5 LIVE line-scanning confocal microscope is designed for ultra-fast 3D live cell imaging but can also image fixed samples at high resolution and higher speed than conventional point-scanning confocals.  It can acquire up to 120 frames per second at 512 x 512 pixels (max. resolution is 1536 x 1536) and 70 planes per second for 3D imaging (z-stacking).

This system is enclosed in an incubator box for CO2 and temperature control during extended imaging of cultured cells.  It is also equipped with a motorized stage for 3D tile scans covering large sample volumes.

The LIVE has 4 laser lines for fluorescence excitation (405, 488, 532, and 635 nm) and can also perform transmitted light imaging including DIC/Nomarski.
